PROPOSAL: A Rustic and Rainy Horseback Session in Powhatan
This session landed close to home in a very literal way. Jake is our cousin, but we grew up so closely that he is considered more along the lines of an extended sibling. He reached out to us in the spring to ask for our help in organizing and photographing an outdoor proposal to Tabbie, who is possibly the sweetest person on the planet.
Casey had just made some photographs of Tabbie and the pups for Jake’s birthday, so she reached out with the suggestion that they do another shoot with Jake after he received his birthday album. Meanwhile, plans were made with Jake to have the pair ride to the location of their casual “couple’s shoot” on horses from the family farm. He would pop the question during some choreographed mid-session shuffling.
The oft-rescheduled day finally came, and it was a dance with a scattered storm forecast. The destination was a neighbor’s beautiful private lake, underneath a willow tree. Whitney put together some floral arrangements and Casey helped gather some other decorative elements to make the outdoor location a little cozier for some post-proposal posing.
A light rain announced the arrival of the two riders from the far side of the lake. Luckily, the shower was short lived and the proposal went off without a hitch. We suggested a transition from horseback to some photos on foot. Jake, recognizing his cue, went to secure his horse while we asked to get some individual photos of Tabbie. She followed a direction to turn her head and look across the lake, and Jake quietly prepared the goods. Ensue precious exchange:
The remainder of our time together was spent enjoying the high of a successful surprise and the fortune of space between storms. We were able to be witnesses to the warmth and infectious joy that Jake and Tabbie share, grabbing some endearing images before the sky completely opened up and Mother Nature invited us to be very much done with taking photos. We love these images and are delighted that they signify a new chapter in which we will welcome a new member into our family.
